The Keck School of Medicine recognizes narrative assessment as a critical component of student evaluation and professional development.
Policy Requirement
- Narrative assessment is provided in any course or clerkship where the Medical Education Curriculum Committee has determined that there was sufficient time and instructor-student interaction to permit this form of assessment.
- Formative narrative assessment is solely to provide feedback to students and will not be included as part of the final course or clerkship grade and not reported in the MSPE.
- Summative narrative assessment will be included as part of the final course and clerkship grade and reported in the MSPE.
- The MECC will monitor compliance with the completion of narrative assessments on an annual basis.
