Student Interest Groups

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion supports several student interest groups that promote and cultivate a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive environment on campus.

American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA)
The Keck chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association provides support and resources along with mentorship and leadership opportunities to women in medicine. Our goal is to empower women to lead in improving health for all within a model that reflects the unique perspectives of women.

Asian Pacific American Student Association (APAMSA)
The Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association addresses the unique health challenges of Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities and connects students from all backgrounds with APIA culture. Our mission is to promote the health of the APIA community and help healthcare workers understand how to care for APIA patients in a culturally sensitive manner. The group is also involved in community outreach and mentorship opportunities.

First Gen
The First Gen student interest group provides support and a community for first generation college students at Keck.

Keck Brothers in Medicine
Keck Brothers in Medicine provides opportunities and a supportive community for Black male students at Keck, with the aim of increasing the number of Black men serving in the field of medicine nationwide. In addition to supporting each other, KBiM strives to inspire younger individuals to pursue careers in medicine.

Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA)
The Latino Medical Student Association unites and empowers medical students through service, mentorship and education to advocate for the health of the Latino community.

MedLambda
Medlambda seeks to create an educational environment that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual members (LGBTQIA+) and allies of the USC Health Sciences Campus and advocate for equitable and culturally competent healthcare for the LGBTQIA+ community at large.

Minority Health Conference (MHC)
MHC student representatives from the Keck School of Medicine collaborate with students at Charles Drew University SOM and UCLA/Geffen SOM to host the annual Minority Health Conference. The Minority Health Conference aims to address minority health disparities and raise awareness about minority health issues in Southern California and beyond.

Reproductive Healthcare for People of Color (RHPC)
The purpose of this organization is to address the healthcare disparities present in reproductive healthcare for people of color who identify as women and/or have female anatomy. Our target population includes cisgender women, transgender men, and nonbinary individuals. These disparities include, but are not limited to, sex-education, family planning, breast cancer awareness, abortion access, and perinatal care. Our mission is to address these inequalities through education, advocacy, and community involvement.

Social Justice in Medicine (SJM)
The mission of Social Justice in Medicine is to support the experiences and growth of students from historically marginalized communities; promote awareness and education related to determinants of health in our surrounding community as well as in greater society; and empower future physicians to be agents of progressive social change.

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)
Student National Medical Association is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.
