Changing Your SP Project/Mentor

For Class of 2025 only.  Once you have declared your Scholarly Project plan during Intersession II (Nov 2023), you need to notify us if you plan to change your project or mentor.

Scholarly Project Mentor/Project Change Request Process

  1. Contact curriculum.office@usc.edu to express your interest to change your Scholarly Project/Mentor and include a brief summary of the reason for the change.
  2. If your request to change is approved by the Course Director, you will be required to take the following steps:

Changing your Project & staying with your original SP Mentor

  1. Complete the Project/Mentor Change Request form and submit to                            curriculum.office@usc.edu.
  2. Once you receive notification that your SP Proposal has been reset, submit a new SP Proposal for your new project within five business days.
  3. Your SP Mentor must approve this new proposal online.

Changing both your Project and your SP Mentor

  1. Ensure you have identified a prospective mentor who is willing to become your SP Mentor, which includes agreeing to the responsibilities found at this link: https://medstudent.usc.edu/research/rsp/responsibilities-of-a-scholarly-project-mentor/
  2. Professionally communicate with your original SP Mentor regarding your plans to change your Scholarly Project.
  3. Both your original SP Mentor and prospective SP Mentor must sign the SP Change Request Form. Submit completed form to curriculum.office@usc.edu.
  4. Once you receive notification that your SP Proposal has been reset, submit a new SP Proposal based on your new project within five business days.
  5. Your new SP Mentor must approve of this proposal online (mentor will receive email link).

Changing only SP Mentor and staying with original Project

  1. Ensure you have identified a prospective mentor who is willing to become your SP Mentor, which includes agreeing to the responsibilities found at this link: https://medstudent.usc.edu/research/rsp/responsibilities-of-a-scholarly-project-mentor/
  2. Professionally communicate with your original SP Mentor regarding your plans to change.
  3. Both your original SP Mentor and prospective SP Mentor must sign the Change Request Form. Submit completed form to curriculum.office@usc.edu.
  4. The SP Mentor information for your project will be updated in the SP Submission System.
